It is very common for people to fall asleep during a massage session, and for good reason!
During this time, the parasympathetic nervous system in the body is activated, which is our state of
‘rest and digest.’ Receiving bodywork is intended to help soothe our bodies and declutter our mindsso it makes sense!
It means it’s working 😉
During a massage there are endorphins that are being released as well which aid in reduction of
tension and pain. This also contributes to those sleepy feelings on the table.
I read a stat once that stated a 90 minute massage was the equivalent to 8 hours of sleep 💤
and if you think about it, 90 minutes of continuous and concentrated work on our body is so soothing
that we really do remain in that deep state of relaxation the whole time (hopefully), as opposed to
tossing and turning in bed at night trying to reach maximum comfort.
I tell people all of the time it is a reboot for their systems and absolutely not a negative experience to
have. You won’t “miss” the treatment, all of the benefits will still be there once you are fully awake
